We Love Happy Hour!

Nothing makes me happier than a cold glass of wine on a patio after a long day at work. There are so many restaurant patios that are hidden gems in the city that also offer great happy hour specials. Establishments in Vancouver were only allowed to offer happy hour pricing as of summer 2014 and it is a fairly new concept in the city. We love good food and fine wine at an excellent price point, which sums up why happy hour is so fantastic! It is with great pleasure that I share with you my favourite restaurants in Vancouver that offer the best happy hour deals!

1. Joe Fortes
Happy Hour 4 - 6pm
If you love seafood Joe Fortes will blow your mind. Not only is the menu amazing, but the patio is like stepping into a garden oasis. It is just raised above Robson street, which can make for some good people watching. I discovered the happy hour menu at the end of last summer and it is a great value for the quality of food. They offer buck-a-shuck oysters, half off appetizers and five dollar glasses of Peller Estates wines in both red and white.

2. The Roof at Black + Blue
Happy Hour 4 - 5:30pm
The Roof is a trendy outdoor lounge featuring encased fire pit's and comfortable bench seating. With the high caliber of food that Black + Blue serves I was surprised when I discovered the Roof has a happy hour menu. The happy hour menu consists of half price appetizers, cocktail specials, five dollar glasses of the house white and red.

3. Tap and Barrel
Happy Hour on liquor only 3 - 6pm
T&B has a rustic vibe and make the best fried pickles (in our opinion) in the city! What makes Tap and Barrel unique is their extensive list of beer and wine all on tap. Wine on tap is fairly new concept as it is dispensed from steel kegs, which eliminates waste and can be kept for months. They also offer wine tasting flights so you can pick a favourite. Tap and Barrel currently doesn't offer any happy hour deals for food, but they do offer five dollar glasses of wine between three and six. Tap and Barrel has three locations with patios that offer the most beautiful views in Vancouver (Coal Harbour, Olympic Village and lower Lonsdale).

Emily's Tasting Note
Backyard Vineyards Hand Drawn White blend 2014

Backyard Vineyard is in Vancouver's backyard, Langley. We tasted this wine at Tap and Barrel and it is one of the many wine's they offer on tap. It is a Fraser valley pinot gris, riesling gewertraminer blend. It's a dry white with medium acidity. It has notes of nectarines, white peach with a touch of lime and pepper spice. The fruit flavours of the wine paired nicely with the savoury components of the cheese plate.
